The American Heart Association's Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Provider Course provides the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage the first 10 minutes of an adult ventricular fibrillation/ventricular tachycardia (VF/VT) arrest.

ACLS is designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care unit.​​​​

Course Content:

  • All content covered in Basic Life Support course

  • Airway management

  • Megacode

  • Related pharmacology

  • Recognition and early management of respiratory arrest, cardiac arrest, and peri-arrest

  • Management of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and stroke

  • Effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team

  • Use of the automated external defibrillator (AED) as it compares to the cardiac monitor

  • 2015 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care

Providers are expected to learn to manage 10 core ACLS cases:

  • Respiratory emergencies 

  • Stroke

Four types of prearrest emergencies:

  • Bradycardia

  • Stable tachycardia

  • Unstable tachycardia

  • Acute coronary syndromes

Four types of cardiac arrest:​

  • Simple VF/VT

  • Complex VF/VT

  • PEA

  • Asystole
